How is this model different from the other X2P thermostats?
While other X2P models are designed for simpler setups, the RTH22B is specifically optimized for multi-stage systems. It can manage up to 2 Heat / 2 Cool conventional systems or 2 Heat / 1 Cool heat pump systems with electric backup. It also includes an "Emergency Heat" (EMER) mode for heat pump users, which is not found on the single-stage models.
Does this thermostat require a C-wire for power?
No. Like other programmable models in the X-Series, the RTH22B is powered by two AA batteries (not included). Even if your system has a C-wire (Common wire) and you connect it to the terminal, batteries are still required to power the display and internal operations.
What scheduling options does the "Flexible Schedule" feature offer?
The RTH22B provides the most versatile programming in the series. Through the Installer Setup (ISU) menu, you can choose between 7-day (each day different), 5-1-1 (weekdays, Saturday, and Sunday separate), 5-2 (weekdays vs. weekend), or 1-week (same schedule every day) options. You can also disable scheduling entirely to use it as a manual thermostat.
Can I customize the look of the thermostat to match my room?
Yes. This model comes with interchangeable decorative accent pieces. The package includes both white and gray options that snap onto the sides of the device, allowing you to coordinate the thermostat with your home’s color palette or decor.
What is the "Smart Response" feature?
Smart Response is a comfort-focused setting that allows the thermostat to "learn" how long your system takes to reach a specific temperature. Instead of turning on exactly at your scheduled time, the thermostat will start the system early to ensure your home reaches the desired temperature by the time you've programmed (e.g., reaching 70°F exactly at 7:00 AM rather than starting at 7:00 AM).
