Customer Reviews For The Honeywell HL14CHESWK Portable Air Conditioner & Heater, 14,000 BTU (White-Black)
Product Reviews
The price should really match their retailers, not more. But works as it should. Blows fairly strong. And has a perfect look for the area that it sits in, keeping with the black and white theme. I would like to have a vent hose another 12-24 inches but there probably is a reason it is not.
Very impressed I also have 12,000 btu Portable ac unit this new one is Fantastic quiet and cools room with Cathedral ceilings with ease. Highly recommend this unit. Honeywell your the Best!
I use it in a 1000 sq ft apartment that's ground level and naturally doesn't get too hot. I use it just to help maintain a cool atmosphere on very hot days and it works perfectly for my needs.
Excellent product, INCREDIBLE SERVICE. We have had a "4 in 1l unit MM14CHCS for almost years. Used for heating and cooling in 14x20 room with excellent results...but unit started making "noise" in cooling. Called the 800 number. After going through some basic steps to show purchase information and describing the problem. LORI promptly RESOLVED THE PROBLEM UNDER THE TERMS OF THE WARRANTY! THIS COMPANY STANDS BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT. INCREDIBLE SERVICE SUPPORT. The new unit is as attractive as the prior model and even cools better. Highly recommend product and company.
I live in southeast Louisiana. I've had this unit for a month now I recvd unit June 1, 2019 and put it in service June 1. The temperature, humidity and heat index ranges here are high 78-98F temp, 60-100% humidity, heat index 81-116F. I have this unit installed in my attached garage, which is uninsulated but does have an energy star door and window, & I insulated the large garage door exterior is brick. I have drywall on the interior walls and ceiling. The garage is 400 square feet, with 8 ft. ceiling. Keep in mind, in my area, you have to figure approximately 35BTU for every square foot due to the heat loads 400 sf equates to 14,000BTUs reqd. Other areas of the US will be a lower BTU value. This ac units performance is very good. It's reasonably quiet and keeps the garage area temperatures reasonable I'm seeing approximately 12-14F lower temperature in garage versus outside air temperature with the unit temperature set to 72F. The 72F setting helps minimize the temperature rise in the garage during the extreme heat of the day since the morning temperature in the garage is 72F. Example, if the outside temperature is 96, the garage temperature is approximately 82-84, with lower humidity versus outside. I run this unit 24 hrs. a day, 7 days a week. The estimated electric use has been approximately 500kwh total, which I consider reasonable for the conditions. At 9 cents per kWh, this is approximately $45/month during the summer months. I haven't used the heater portion of the unit yet but I expect its performance will be very good as well. My winter temperatures are not severe. In summary, I recommend this unit to anyone considering purchasing one. I purchased my unit from the Honeywell online store and it was an excellent price at $611. Delivery was very quick. It was easy to install. I haven't had to drain any water from the unit in the ac mode of operation. My only wish is this unit was stamped Made in the USA.
Keeps my 1905 house comfortable in the 100 degree temps.
Product FAQs
Portable ACs use either a single hose or dual hose design. In cooling mode, single hose PACs remove hot air from the room, and then expel the hot air out the one hose. In cooling mode, dual hose PACs bring in air from outside through one hose, and expels warm air outside through the second hose. In both cases cold air in cooling mode flows through the unit's vents into the room.
Casement windows are quite unique in design and functionality so PACs do not have window kits that can completely cover the gap for these types of specialty windows.
The screen may not interfere with installation, but for better releasing of hot air out the window, it is better to remove the screen.
A BTU (British Thermal Unit) is a standard unit of energy that measures the amount of heat per hour an air conditioner removes from a room. The larger the room, the higher the BTU requirement. Below, are some general guidelines. However other factors – such as the number of open doorways, a south-facing window with continuous sunlight, or a room with high occupancy – can require a unit with a higher BTU rating than the average guidelines.
Room Size in sq. ft. BTU
- 350 8,000
- 450 10,000
- 550 12,000
- 700 14,000
- 1,000 18,000
AC units demand a lot of energy, so should not be paired on the same electrical outlet with other similar high-consumption devices. Always plug the unit into an available electrical outlet. Never use an extension cord to power your portable air conditioner.
Portable Air Conditioners are easy-to-use handy devices that can be moved around from one place to the other with ease. A portable air conditioner will naturally reduce humidity indoors, which is perfect for hot, humid summer weather. An additional fan mode can help circulate air throughout the room even when you have turned off air conditioning cooling.
Air conditioners, including portable air conditioners, are complex machines and heavy power users. However, energy savings can lie in your usage of the technology. Choosing to cool down a single room with a portable air conditioner rather than switching on whole-house central air could result in significant cost savings.
Depending on the model, portable air conditioners can also convert into dehumidifiers, extracting humidity without the cooling feature. This can be useful in the colder, wetter seasons if your space is prone to mold or mildew. Some Honeywell models are also equipped with a heating element, transforming the unit into a secondary heating source for winter.
The air flow will work better without the obstruction of the insect screen. We suggest removing the screen.
Several factors can affect the performance of your portable air conditioner. Foremost is whether your unit's BTU is suitable for your space. An inadequate BTU will not result in cooling. Other factors can affect performance, too: rooms with large open doorways or within open-plan spaces; rooms with poor insulation or high ceilings; south-facing rooms with copious direct sunlight. If any of these are the case, see if you can tighten up the insulation and overall boundaries, and add light-colored window coverings. Another factor is room occupancy. Crowded rooms will be hotter and require a more powerful unit to cool down.
Run through this troubleshooting checklist:
- Check your unit's BTU with your square footage and ceiling height.
- Determine if your room has many openings – doorways or windows.
- Determine if your walls and flooring are poorly insulated.
- Does your room receive a lot of strong, direct sunlight?
- Is your room often crowded?
